About Reading Across Borders
Reading Across Borders is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children who lack books, reading resources and educational resources. We aim to collect books, school supplies and donations to rally people around the globe to participate in our activities, funding and providing books, school materials and other educational resources to people in need, especially children.
Our mission is to share knowledge, demonstrate achievement, and inspire more people around the world to support the cause of literacy, education, and cultural literacy. At Reading without Borders, our mission is to bridge the literacy gap by providing free and accessible educational resources to children in underdeveloped communities. We believe that education is the key to opening up opportunities and creating a better future for these children.
The founder of Reading Without Borders, Andrew Huang, is a 16-year-old high school student who lives with his parents and sister in McLean, Virginia, a suburb of Washington D.C. He is currently in the 11th grade of BASIS Independent McLean.
In 2023, Andrew followed his French teacher to Senegal, Africa, on a school-organized trip to help local children. After seeing how children there survived and learned under harsh conditions, and learning about the lack of educational resources, Andrew decided to start the organization with the aim of helping as many disadvantaged children as possible.
In March 2024, "Reading Without Borders" raised and donated $1,000 to the school's French Honor Society, through the French Honor Society to a school in Madagascar, Africa. The money was sent to the school this summer to buy books and school supplies.
